Intel Plans to Reintroduce Hyper-Threading Technology in Coral Rapids CPUs by 2028
Intel has confirmed it will bring back its Hyper-Threading technology with the upcoming Coral Rapids processor family, scheduled for release in 2028. Hyper-Threading is Intel’s implementation of simultaneous multithreading (SMT), a technique that allows a single CPU core to handle two distinct software threads concurrently, enhancing overall performance in multithreaded workloads.
Return of Hyper-Threading After Recent Omission
Recently, Intel discontinued Hyper-Threading support starting with the launch of the Core Ultra 200 series chips. Additionally, the Xeon 7 Diamond Rapids processors, designed for high-performance server workloads, also lack this feature. This move notably marked a departure from Intel’s previous CPU designs, sparking discussions about the impact on computing efficiency and multitasking capabilities.
Despite the removal of Hyper-Threading in these recent models, Intel’s leadership acknowledges the importance of SMT technology.
