Russia Sees Record Console Sales in 2025 Amid Declining Revenue and Lower Prices
In 2025, the Russian gaming console market experienced an unusual dynamic, with the number of units sold reaching a new high while overall revenue significantly declined. According to data analyzed by market research firm GfK Rus and the retail chain M.video, console sales totaled approximately 1.48 million units, marking a 3% increase compared to the previous year.
Despite this uptick in volume, the total revenue generated by console sales in Russia dropped by 13.8% to about 27.3 billion rubles. This divergence between unit sales and revenue is largely attributed to a notable decrease in the average selling price of gaming consoles.
The average price for a console in Russia fell by 15.5% from 2024, reaching roughly 18,500 rubles in 2025. This trend suggests a growing consumer preference for more affordable gaming devices amid broader economic considerations.
Shift Toward Budget Consoles in the Russian Market
The market movement toward budget-friendly consoles indicates changes in purchasing behavior among Russian gamers. As prices adjusted downward, more consumers were able to afford new gaming devices, which contributed to higher unit sales despite the revenue decline.
This pricing trend may reflect multiple factors, including increased competition in the console segment, shifting product mixes favoring entry-level options, or economic pressures encouraging cost-conscious spending. Retailers and manufacturers operating in Russia may be adapting their strategies to address these evolving consumer demands.
While the rise in sales volume underscores a healthy demand for gaming consoles, the revenue drop points to challenges in maintaining profitability amid price sensitivity. Stakeholders in the Russian video game hardware market will likely monitor these trends closely as they impact future product launches, marketing strategies, and inventory decisions.
Overall, Russia’s 2025 gaming console market illustrates the complex balance between growth in consumer adoption and the financial realities shaped by pricing dynamics in the retail ecosystem.
In 2025, Russia hit a record 1.48 million console sales as prices dropped, but total market revenue fell nearly 14%, signaling a shift toward budget gaming devices.
