Tesla Recalls All Rear-Wheel-Drive Cybertruck Long Range Models Over Brake Disk Defect
Tesla has initiated a recall for its rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck Long Range models as a result of a braking system fault that may cause wheel detachment. The manufacturer reported the issue through a notice to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) outlining the specific defect affecting all 173 units sold with this configuration.
Braking Component Failure Poses Safety Risks
The company identified that the brake discs on these vehicles can develop cracks in the holes designed for wheel studs. This structural weakness can lead to the studs separating from the wheel hub, increasing the risk of wheels detaching during operation. Such a failure presents a serious safety hazard for both the driver and others on the road.
Tesla is addressing the problem by offering repairs at no charge. The remedy involves replacing the front and rear brake discs, along with the wheel hubs and lug nuts. This comprehensive replacement aims to ensure the integrity of the braking and wheel attachment systems and restore safe vehicle function.
The recall exclusively impacts the rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck Long Range variant, which has seen limited sales thus far. Tesla has not extended the recall to other versions of the Cybertruck, such as the dual or tri-motor all-wheel-drive models, as no related issues were reported in those variants.
This action underscores the ongoing challenges electric vehicle manufacturers face in producing new models that incorporate novel designs and materials. Despite Tesla’s reputation for innovation, technical flaws can emerge in early production runs, necessitating manufacturer interventions via recalls.
While details on the precise root cause beyond the crack formation were not disclosed, the recall notification emphasizes Tesla’s commitment to proactively mitigate safety risks once identified. Vehicle owners affected by this recall are advised to contact Tesla or their local authorized service centers to arrange the necessary repairs promptly.
As the Cybertruck continues to build its market presence, Tesla’s swift response to this defect illustrates the importance of rigorous quality control and customer safety assurance in the competitive electric vehicle sector.
Tesla is recalling all 173 rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck Long Range pickups due to a brake disk defect risking wheel hub failure.
