Global DRAM Sales Surge 29% Driven by AI-Fueled Data Center Expansion
The global dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) market experienced a significant boost in the last quarter, with sales rising by approximately 29%. This surge is attributed to increased deployment of data center infrastructure, particularly driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.
Cloud service providers have accelerated the build-out of data centers, not only focusing on AI-specific servers but also expanding their investments in general-purpose server systems. This strategic shift has broadened the demand beyond the traditionally high-end segments such as HBM3e, LPDDR5X, and high-capacity RDIMM modules to include standard RDIMM memory solutions.
Price Pressure and Market Impact
The spike in memory purchases outpaced supply, leading to a sharp increase in contract prices for mainstream DRAM products. Overall market revenue for the quarter reached nearly $53.6 billion, reflecting a quarter-over-quarter gain of more than 29%.
Samsung Electronics maintained its position as the leading supplier in the DRAM market, continuing to benefit from widespread demand and its vast production capacity. The company’s ability to meet diverse memory needs has kept it at the forefront of the sector despite intense competition.
