GoPro Launches Mission 1 Series Featuring Micro Four Thirds Lens Support
GoPro has unveiled its new Mission 1 series of action cameras, marking a significant step forward with advanced imaging capabilities and modular lens options. The company is emphasizing video performance by integrating 50-megapixel sensors and deploying its proprietary GP3 processors across the lineup.
The Mission 1 series will be introduced in multiple phases. The initial release will include the standard Mission 1 model alongside the Mission 1 Pro, both scheduled for availability starting May 28. These models are designed to cater to a broad range of users seeking enhanced video capture and high-resolution photography features.
Micro Four Thirds Lens Compatibility Expands Flexibility
The most notable addition to the series is the flagship Mission 1 Pro ILS, anticipated for launch in the third quarter. This premium model will support interchangeable optics utilizing the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mount system, offering users greater creative flexibility and superior image quality by allowing the use of a wide variety of professional lenses.
This move broadens GoPro’s appeal beyond traditional fixed-lens action cameras by addressing the needs of filmmakers and content creators who require higher-grade optics and sensor performance in compact, rugged form factors. The inclusion of detachable lenses is expected to set the Mission 1 Pro ILS apart in the competitive action camera market.
GoPro has yet to disclose pricing details for any of the Mission 1 models. However, with the staggered release plan and the addition of advanced hardware like the GP3 processor and the large 50MP sensors, the new cameras signal a focus on powerful image processing and adaptability.
The Mission 1 series highlights GoPro’s continued innovation in camera technology, blending high-resolution imaging with enhanced video capabilities, all while offering users new options for optical customization. The introduction of Micro Four Thirds lens support could redefine action camera versatility in 2026.
GoPro introduces the Mission 1 lineup with 50MP sensors and Micro Four Thirds lens compatibility, debuting in two stages starting May 28.
