Kioxia Unveils Super High IOPS Server SSD to Boost Nvidia AI Workloads
Kioxia has announced a new high-performance solid-state drive aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence workloads running on Nvidia graphics processing units. The recently revealed SSD, known as the E3.S CM9, has been engineered to deliver exceptionally high input/output operations per second (IOPS), a crucial metric for data-intensive AI applications.
Developed in collaboration with Nvidia, this server-grade SSD is designed to provide consistent and rapid data throughput to Nvidia GPUs during demanding AI processing tasks. High IOPS capability ensures smoother data handling and reduced latency, which are essential for maintaining optimal GPU utilization in AI infrastructures.
High Capacity and Endurance for Enterprise Use
The Kioxia E3.S CM9 offers a substantial storage capacity of 25.6 terabytes, catering to the large datasets typical in AI training and inference operations. In addition to its storage size, the drive is built to withstand rigorous usage patterns, with the ability to endure rewriting the entire disk three times daily throughout the warranty period. This endurance figure highlights Kioxia’s focus on reliability and longevity for data center environments.
The E3.S form factor supports integration into modern server architectures, adhering to industry standards that facilitate deployment in AI-focused data centers and enterprise storage arrays.
While specific performance benchmarks or detailed technical specifications beyond capacity and endurance were not disclosed, the SSD’s emphasis on super high IOPS positions it as a strategic component for enhancing AI compute workflows that rely heavily on swift storage access.
Kioxia plans to begin distributing evaluation samples of the E3.S CM9 SSD to customers by late 2026, allowing enterprise users and system integrators to assess its capabilities in real-world AI workloads before broader commercial availability.
This development underscores ongoing collaboration between storage technology providers and GPU manufacturers to optimize the hardware stack for AI. As AI adoption accelerates across industries, storage solutions with high write endurance and robust IOPS performance become increasingly vital to sustaining intensive data processing demands.
Kioxia introduces the E3.S CM9 SSD designed to enhance Nvidia GPU performance in AI tasks with up to 25.6TB capacity and high endurance.
