Microsoft Commits to a Calmer Windows 11 Experience with Major Update
Microsoft has announced a significant upcoming update for Windows 11 aimed at creating a more relaxed and user-friendly operating system experience. The company’s focus centers on reducing distractions such as advertisements and recommendations, while also boosting overall system performance.
The update was unveiled on March 20, and it marks a shift in Microsoft’s approach to Windows 11, addressing previous user concerns about trust and intrusive interface elements. One notable change involves scaling back the integration of Microsoft Copilot across various applications within the OS, which was seen by some users as overly assertive.
In addition to decreasing ad presence, Microsoft is improving the responsiveness and speed of Windows Explorer, a core component frequently used by Windows users for file management. This enhancement is expected to contribute to a smoother navigation experience throughout the system.
Another key technical upgrade includes transitioning the Start menu’s underlying framework. Previously built using React, the menu will be moved to a WinUI 3 platform, which should offer better consistency and performance within the Windows ecosystem.
The update also introduces a new option allowing users to pause system updates indefinitely. This feature is designed to give users more control over when and how updates are applied, addressing feedback about automatic and sometimes disruptive update processes.
Microsoft’s efforts reflect an intent to regain user confidence by minimizing intrusive elements and focusing on stability and usability. While detailed information on rollout timelines and other potential changes has not been released, this update signals a notable shift toward a more streamlined and trusted Windows 11 experience.
Microsoft to reduce ads and streamline Windows 11 with performance upgrades and less Copilot integration to enhance user trust.
