Nvidia’s Reliance on Asian Suppliers Climbs to 90%, Driven by AI Hardware Expansion
Nvidia has significantly increased its dependence on Asian suppliers for manufacturing components essential to its operations. According to recent estimates, about 90 percent of Nvidia’s production expenses are now tied to this region, a sharp rise from approximately 65 percent just one year ago.
Growing Dependence Amid Expanding AI Hardware Production
The shift highlights the critical role Asian companies play within Nvidia’s complex supply chain, especially for its data center technologies. Key production stages include chip fabrication by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the supply of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) modules from South Korean giants SK hynix and Samsung, and the assembly of servers at manufacturing facilities operated by Foxconn and Quanta.
Nvidia’s increasing reliance on these Asian suppliers is closely linked to the company’s expansion into new artificial intelligence (AI) product categories. These advanced AI hardware offerings utilize the same established supply chain partners, underscoring the interconnectedness of Nvidia’s manufacturing ecosystem in Asia.
This trend reflects broader industry dynamics, where specialized semiconductor fabrication and memory production remain concentrated in Asia, positioning companies in the region as indispensable contributors to AI and data center innovations. Despite the global interest in diversifying supply chains, Nvidia’s hardware production continues to heavily leverage this regional expertise.
The company’s growing investment in AI-focused devices is driving not only increased output but also deeper integration with its Asian suppliers, who provide cutting-edge components vital to performance and scalability. This reliance emphasizes the strategic importance of maintaining strong partnerships across this manufacturing network to support Nvidia’s technological advances and competitive position in the AI market.
While Nvidia has been working on expanding its product portfolio in AI, precise details regarding how this supply shift impacts overall business strategy or future supply plans have yet to be disclosed.
Nvidia now depends on Asian suppliers for 90% of its production costs, up from 65% last year, amid growth in AI hardware manufacturing.
