Russian Mobile Subscribers Can Keep Phone Numbers When Moving Between Regions Starting September
Starting September 1, Russian mobile phone users will have the option to keep their existing phone numbers when relocating to different regions within the country. This new feature simplifies the process of changing residence while maintaining consistent telecom services.
Number Portability Across Regions Now Possible
Previously, moving to a new region often required Russian mobile users to obtain a new phone number, causing inconvenience and disruption in communication. According to an announcement from the Russian government’s press office, users will now be able to submit a request to their current mobile operator to retain their phone number during such moves.
The process will involve contacting the subscriber’s telecom provider and filing an official application to transfer the number to the new regional network. This change aims to enhance user experience by reducing the administrative burden and the potential loss of contacts tied to previous phone numbers.
The initiative is expected to streamline telecommunications continuity for Russian citizens facing regional mobility, making transitions smoother for residents, businesses, and institutions alike.
While the government has outlined the basic procedure, detailed guidelines and potential limitations on the number portability process have yet to be extensively communicated. Pricing and timeframes for completing the transfer have not been disclosed as of now.
This development aligns with international telecom practices that facilitate number portability to promote greater flexibility and customer retention among mobile operators.
Russian subscribers are advised to stay updated through their mobile service providers for specific instructions and availability of the service as the September launch date approaches.
From September, Russian mobile users will be able to retain their phone numbers when relocating across different regions by submitting a request to their operator.
