Study Finds One-Quarter of Long Social Media Posts Fully Generated by AI
A new study conducted by the company Pangram has shed light on the prevalence of artificial intelligence-generated content in major social media platforms. The research specifically analyzed posts exceeding 250 words, revealing that approximately one in four of these longer posts were completely created by AI technologies.
AI Content Distribution Varies Across Platforms
The investigation looked at several leading social networks to assess the extent to which AI is influencing online discussions and content creation. The findings indicate that LinkedIn exhibits the highest concentration of AI-generated posts among the platforms examined, standing out as a hub where a significant proportion of longer content is crafted by automated systems.
In contrast, Reddit was identified as one of the platforms with the lowest share of AI-produced long-form content, suggesting that the user base and community dynamics there may favor human-generated contributions over AI-assisted or fully AI-created posts.
This differentiation in AI content presence highlights how various social networks attract and accommodate different types of user engagement and content creation methods. LinkedIn’s professional and content-heavy environment potentially encourages the use of AI tools to produce detailed articles, commentary, or updates, whereas Reddit’s discussion-driven model seems less influenced by fully AI-generated texts.
The implications of this growing adoption of AI in social media posting are significant. As machine-generated content becomes more prevalent, it raises questions about authenticity, content quality, and the evolving role of AI in shaping public conversations online.
While the study focuses on long posts, it opens the door to further research exploring how AI-generated content impacts user interaction, trust, and platform moderation policies across the digital landscape.
A recent study reveals that 25% of social media posts over 250 words are entirely AI-generated, with LinkedIn having the highest share.
