US Space Force Initiates Projects for Orbital Satellite Service Facilities
The United States Space Force, through its innovation arm SpaceWERX, has announced a new initiative to develop orbital infrastructure intended to support the servicing and maintenance of satellites in space. This marks a significant step toward establishing on-orbit warehouses and depots designed to extend the operational lifetimes and capabilities of military satellites.
The initiative focuses on creating technologies and systems for robotic assembly, repair, refueling, and relocation of spacecraft directly in Earth orbit.
