CATL Unveils Third-Generation LFP Battery with Six-Minute Fast Charging
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has revealed a notable advancement in lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology at its recent Tech Day event. This third-generation traction battery, named Shenxing, supports an ultra-fast charging capability that allows it to reach near full capacity in approximately six minutes.
Industry-Leading Low Internal Resistance Enables Rapid Charging
CATL’s new Shenxing 3.0 battery demonstrates a breakthrough by achieving an internal resistance of just 0.25 milliohms, which is reported to be half the level typical in the current industry standard. This record-low resistance means that the battery can accept energy much more efficiently and quickly without degradation, enabling significantly reduced charge times compared to previous generations and many competing technologies.
LFP batteries are known for their safety, thermal stability, and longevity when used in electric vehicles and stationary energy storage systems. The third-generation Shenxing battery’s combination of fast charging and these inherent advantages positions it as a strong candidate for widespread adoption in applications demanding rapid turnaround and high reliability.
While specific details about capacity, energy density, or commercial availability were not disclosed, CATL’s announcement marks an important step forward in addressing one of the key limitations often associated with LFP technology: charging speed. Faster charging cycles can enhance convenience for electric vehicle owners and increase the operational efficiency of electric transport fleets.
CATL has consistently pushed innovation in battery chemistry and design. This latest development adds to the company’s growing portfolio of advanced energy storage solutions focused on supporting the transition to electrified mobility and renewable energy integration worldwide.
CATL introduces its latest third-generation LFP battery featuring the industry’s lowest internal resistance, enabling nearly full charge in six minutes.
