Framework Introduces OCuLink Dev Kit to Enhance Laptop 16 with Desktop-Level Connectivity
Modular laptop maker Framework has unveiled an innovative expansion for its Laptop 16 model designed to significantly boost its connectivity capabilities. The company announced a new developmental accessory dubbed the OCuLink Dev Kit, which introduces an 8-lane OCuLink interface to the system.
Introducing PCIe-Level External Connectivity via OCuLink
The newly announced OCuLink Dev Kit equips the Laptop 16 with a high-speed external interface supporting up to 128 Gbps of bidirectional data transfer. This effectively allows the laptop to connect with external PCIe devices with a bandwidth previously reserved for desktop computers, bridging the gap between portable and stationary computing solutions.
Framework has positioned the Laptop 16 as the first notebook offering an open 8-lane OCuLink connection, enabling users and developers to explore broader hardware customization and expansion possibilities. This interface opens the door to enhanced peripheral support, such as external GPUs, high-speed storage solutions, and specialized add-ons requiring direct PCIe connectivity.
By integrating OCuLink 8i into their modular design ethos, Framework continues to push the boundaries between laptop flexibility and desktop-class performance. The OCuLink Dev Kit showcases the company’s commitment to providing users with adaptable hardware that can evolve alongside their computing needs.
Details about pricing, availability, and compatible external hardware were not disclosed. However, this development marks a noteworthy advancement in modular laptop design, emphasizing scalable and high-bandwidth connectivity options that cater to power users and developers alike.
Framework’s new OCuLink Dev Kit brings an 8-lane OCuLink interface to Laptop 16, enabling up to 128 Gbps bidirectional PCIe connections for external devices.
