Russian Radioelectronics Market Nears 4 Trillion Rubles Amid Persistent Import Dependence
The Russian radioelectronics sector recorded substantial growth in recent years, with the market size reaching close to 4 trillion rubles in 2025. This marked an increase driven in part by a significant expansion of domestic manufacturing capabilities, according to information provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation (Minpromtorg).
Growth in Domestic Production Contrasted by Ongoing Import Reliance
Data from the ministry reveal that the share of Russian manufacturers in the radioelectronics market rose markedly from approximately 12–12.5% in 2020 to 62% in 2025. This expansion signals a strategic shift towards strengthening local production and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
Despite this improvement in domestic output, the sector still exhibits a high level of dependency on imports for certain components and technologies. Industry experts suggest that this reliance may continue to pose challenges for the overall supply chain resilience and technological sovereignty of the country.
Estimates place the total market volume of the radioelectronics segment in the range of 3 to 4 trillion rubles in the last year, with government procurement accounting for roughly 1 to 1.2 trillion rubles of this figure. The sizeable share of state orders underscores the importance of government support in driving demand and fostering the growth of local manufacturers within the industry.
The radioelectronics sector encompasses a wide variety of products, including electronic components, communication devices, and industrial electronic solutions, which serve both civilian and defense applications. The government’s focus on increasing domestic production aligns with broader economic objectives aiming to enhance self-reliance in strategically significant industries.
While the marked increase in local market share represents a notable achievement, industry stakeholders acknowledge the need for continued investment in research and development, advanced manufacturing technologies, and supply chain diversification to address existing gaps and reduce external dependencies.
Further efforts to support the sector may involve targeted policies aimed at incentivizing innovation, improving the quality and competitiveness of Russian-made radioelectronics products, and expanding export opportunities to strengthen the industry’s global presence over time.
As Russia continues to navigate economic and geopolitical challenges, the evolution of its radioelectronics market will remain a key indicator of its technological and industrial capabilities in the coming years.
The Russian radioelectronics market approached 4 trillion rubles in 2025, yet remains heavily reliant on imports despite increased domestic production.
