Corsair Launches ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 GPU Power Cable with Integrated Overheat Sensor

Corsair has unveiled a new power cable designed specifically for graphics cards that incorporates an integrated temperature sensor to help prevent overheating. Known as the ThermalProtect 12V-2×6, the cable features built-in thermal monitoring capabilities at the GPU power connector, enabling it to cut off power delivery if unsafe temperatures are detected.

Enhanced Safety for GPU Power Delivery

The ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 cable is certified to PCIe 5.1 standards and is engineered to deliver up to 600 watts of power to a graphics processing unit. This high-capacity cable addresses increasing power demands of current and upcoming GPUs while offering an additional layer of safety against thermal issues at the power connector interface.

By embedding a temperature sensor directly within the connection area, the cable actively tracks heat levels that can arise from poor contact, excessive current, or other thermal stress conditions. Should the measured temperature reach a predefined threshold, the cable’s internal mechanism will interrupt the power supply to prevent potential damage or hazards.

This innovation reflects growing attention within the PC hardware community towards improving reliability and safety as GPU power requirements continue to climb. It also signals a trend where component manufacturers consider integrated thermal management features in even simple but critical elements such as power cables.

The ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 answers common concerns about overheating connector issues, which can lead to hardware failure or reduced system stability. By proactively monitoring connection temperatures and providing automatic cutoff protection, Corsair aims to help users safeguard their high-performance gaming or professional workstation setups.

Details about pricing, availability, and compatibility with various GPU models have not yet been disclosed by Corsair.
